Last Saturday, celebrations were in full swing when Crafty Spirit won for the second time in a row with jockey Matthew McGillvray aboard. It is great to see this partnership growing together in confidence and Crafty is definitely improving his race skills under Matthew’s guiding hand. The 3YO son of Spirit of Boom, was impressive three weeks early at Doomben, on a very heavy track under very trying weather conditions but last Saturday he proved that he is a horse for all courses. Jumping from barrier four, Crafty Spirit took up his usual position, at the tail end of the field. At around the 600m mark Matthew peeled out and started to make his move forward. As they entered the long Eagle Farm straight Crafty Spirit showed an impressive turn of foot to sprint away from the field winning comfortably by a length to his nearest rival. It was obvious that Crafty is still a little green but he is starting to put it all together and show the brilliance that Danny has felt was there all along. The gelding will now be aiming towards the Group 2 Queensland Guineas over 1400m at Eagle Farm on the 8 June 2019 during the prestigious Queensland Winter Carnival.
